It may be a little uncomfortable or intense at times if we are working on a trigger point but you are always in control of the pressure. The discomfort is never going to be so intense that you won’t be able to breathe or relax into it. A lot of clients describe it as a hurt so good feeling.
Yes. Massage and bodywork are completely safe when performed by someone who has studied anatomy and how the body functions. It is less invasive than surgery, cortisone shots or taking medications for pain. As a licensed massage therapist I can recognize when massage is contraindicated or if I need to refer you to other health care providers.
You will need to make changes for sure. This isn’t a quick fix nor is it something passive. You will need to take an active role in your own recovery and healing. I am not a healer but a guide that can help your body heal itself and help you keep it that way. At times it may be uncomfortable. But keeping an open mind to new ideas and learning, will help you in this process. You should feel empowered to move forward with a new understanding and tools for the rest of your life.
Everyone is different with different needs and challenges. It would be disingenuous of me to give a definite time period. But in general and from my experience clients start to see significant results after the 3rd or 4th session. What I like do is plan out a treatment for 8 weeks. That might mean we meet once, twice or three times a week during that 8 week period. The frequency depends on how involved the issue is and how your body responds to the treatment. Progress also depends on how much self-care you do between sessions as well. A typical treatment plan may look like two sessions a week for about 60 minutes in weeks 1-4 and then dropping to once a week thereafter.
What is unique about my program is that you don’t have to think about what type of session or what length or how often to come in. All of that will be determined for you. You simply have to show up. Since everyone has a different treatment plan, in general you can expect to spend 30-90 minutes at my office 1-3 times per week for 2 months. Then we can reassess and most likely come up with a good maintenance plan.
To put things in perspective massage is far less expensive than surgery or being on pain medication. This option is far less invasive and there are no side effects. Even over the counter pain relief medication comes with side effects to your health. The real question is can you afford not to do it? What is it worth to you to be pain free, to have mobility again, to be able to play with your kids and not have to worry about the pain?
I'm not your typical massage therapist. I am going to look at you and your goals in a holistic way. This is about education, empowerment and responsibility to move forward into a wellness lifestyle. This isn’t just an hour massage and I send you on your way. This is a lifestyle change. We are creating lasting results and providing tools for you to take control of your health now and in the future.
